The fact that Aaron Burr was a family friend of the Biddle family so James Biddle wrote to Burr during the First Barbary War really shouldnāt surprise me.
And yetā¦..it does? Like Iām pretty sure the Biddles were Federalists so why are they talking to Aaron Burr- oh. Something about being in-laws somehow.

The brothers I could find images for. William the eldest is missing along with Edward ( the third son who was buried at sea at the age of 16), and Charles (the fifth son).
Ā Of the pictures here we have James the second son of Charles and Hannah Biddle. He would serve in the U.S. navy during the Barbary Wars, War of 1812 and all the way up to the beginning of the Mexican War; he had a long career.
Nicholas Biddle the fourth son was the financier who was involved in the Bank War against President Andrew Jackson.
Thomas Biddle sixth son was an officer in the U.S. Army and would die in a duel against Congressman Spencer Pettis who was slandering Nicholas Biddle and his bank.
John the seventh son also an army vet would become a Congressman from the Michigan territory.Ā
Richard the eighth son became an attorney in Pittsburgh PA and two term Congressman.
I never read the summary of James Biddleās biography until now. This had me laughing!
Mostly because the image of John Quincy Adams laughing till tears came running when Biddle presented the inventory list of Caesar Augustus Rodney wonāt leave my head.
Iām harassing my sister to join me in Philadelphia to celebrate the 250th.
So far Iāve gotten no answer but Iām working on it. I have a list of bad decisions to make. And one of them is taking a train to Philadelphia because I learned my lesson about Pensacola. Not sure if I said this before but, James Biddle gets most credit of founding the prototype of the Naval Academy which was located in Philadelphia.
Okay, cool. Maybe Iāll see the Naval Asylum which was a retirement home for disabled sailors and marines in the 1830s. Or not because itās the site of a gated community now!

Anytime I hear/ read how Commodore Matthew Perry āopened up Japanā to the western world for trade, I hear James Biddle screaming in the background now. His final cruise which was around the world in more than 80 days had him lay the ground work for diplomacy in Japan and Hawaii then swing by future California around the beginning of the Mexican War before heading home to Philadelphia to retire.

Another accidental discovery Iāve made just now was Foxhall A. Parker was born in Westmoreland County Virginia (county Iām definitely familiar with) and was on the Nautilus with William Crane when it got captured during the War of 1812. What does Foxhall Parker have to do with anything? Either he or his son Jr. were mentioned in James Biddleās biography and now because curiosity will get the better of me, I will have to stop what Iām doing and look. Canāt get anything done because I was originally trying to find an image of Charles Gordon for the Edward Preble comic.
I would have never thought of visiting Andalusia (Nicholas Biddleās estate in Pennsylvania) but I definitely need to put it on my bucket list. Iām somewhat more interested in James Biddle and his friendship with Lewis Warrington and Iām sure thereās information there related to that topic but nonetheless, Nicholas Biddle is still a fascinating person.
