How long had it been since he had seen Beyond? The younger had disappeared from the orphanage with barely a trace, going off on his own some time ago. Efforts were made to follow his journey but soon all trails became cold overtime. He was gone.
L was worried. Before he left Beyond had shown signs mental instability. It was something he monitored from a far but should have payed more attention to. He was smart, extremely smart; Beyond was great contender for a successor. So L just let him. He let him spiral and spiral as long as he was showing potential to be like his idol was. But instead of adapting, he broke.
The stories he was told about what had happened were drastic. The crimes he had committed was twisted, something way beyond what L would have considered the most extreme outcome. Beyond was... insane... and it was his fault. He had to go see him, to talk to him, to see the damage he did
So there he was, being escorted down the prison halls towards a secured room at the end. He was given privacy as he was sealed in the room with his successor, with the guards still in earshot of his yells should he need his assistance. L was sure this would not be needed, or at least he hoped it wasn’t. He hoped this was still the same Beyond he knew when he came to Wammy’s, before it all went wrong.
He looked at him, sat at the table L kept his distance from. It wasn’t out of fear of Beyond, but of what he caused him to become. The silence was broken with a sad voice. “Beyond... Hello...”
