Getting Over Him
Jake looked in mirror and took a deep breath. Tommy stood a few feet away smirking.
“He never liked it when I wore makeup.” Duck shook her head.
“Yeah, well. It’s not him you’re going out with tonight.” She shot back, smiling. Amber nodded at her daughter and glided in, elegant as ever. She held up a dark, almost emerald green suit. Well, the jacket was green. The pants and shirt were black and the bowtie was the same shade of green as the jacket.
“I thought that this would bring out your eyes, Jacob.”
Tommy grinned, “It so will!”
When he finally got there, he had assumed that the other would be late, because Greg always was. Or was he always early? No, no. Greg was always late. But, he wasn’t. He smiled brightly when he saw Jake and stood up as he walked towards him. He pecked his cheek and told him he looked amazing. Jake stuttered out a “You do too..”
He was pleasantly surprised when he pulled out the chair for him. Even more so when he threw his head back laughing, like a little kid, at Jake’s horrible, horrible pun. He smiled softly and he smiled back.
“I.. have a confession.” He said, a little embarrassed. He bit his lip and rubbed the back of his neck. “I’ve… wanted to do this for a long time. Since high school, actually.” Jake blushed darkly.
“You- Really?” He nodded, his own cheeks turning pink.
“Yeah, really. When I heard.. You know.. I was so worried, Jacob. I thought.. I..” He shook his head. “I was just so happy to see you, alive and in person. And now we’re on a date and you look so amazing- Tommy’s work highlighting how amazing you always look no doubt.” The redhaired male smiled at him again. He sounded absolutely giddy. “I just.. I care so much about you, Jacob. I’m.. I’m glad you’ve healed enough to date at all. Let alone you dating me.”
Jake looked away, but he was smiling. “Mark, please. You’re embarrassing me..”
Mark grinned and reached for his hand, “Yes, Jacob, that was the point. You just look so cute all flustered like that.”
Slowly, but surely, he was getting over him.
