An energy-efficient jaggery making unit
A project team headed by Prof. Milind Rane, Department of Mechanical Engineering, is looking to develop an energy efficient jaggery making unit with minimum drudgery and minimal burning of bagasse. This is done by using a patented long stroke reciprocating mechanism based compressor which is highly efficient because of being near isothermal. The vapours generated from the juice are compressed to boil the further juice. Also the project team is looking at improving the overall efficiency of the system by making it modular to be transported to the field. This project is mainly focused on empowering individual farmers.
