ADI: This is why I love playing with bands. Something can happen on stage and a song take on a character and feel all its own. Last night we played Back to Black live for the first time at the Coach and Horses open mic. It'd been a while since we’d performed something new and after playing lots of open mics, gigs and festivals, it was time to add some new numbers. We'd rehearsed this iconic Amy Winehouse track last week in a cookie fueled frenzy. Dave came up with a slightly different feel to the original which the rest of the band liked. We call it “jadi-izing” a track. This had a direct influence on what I played and how Jules sang too. Fast forward to last night. Before driving over to the Coach and Horses open mic, Jules sang the song to a backing track she'd bought for her #jadisolosinger project, knowing that the Jadi-ized version had a different feel. Everything fine so far. So we launch into the track and something was off - afterwards Dave said his rhythm wasn't quite right and I’m not sure I counted it off spot on either. We had arranged beforehand that if at any time Jules felt things weren't right with a song she could call “Rewind” and we would start again. Which she did. Rather than stop playing, Dave latched onto a groove on the guitar that felt great and I locked in with him. This time Jules was able to comfortably sing and we were away. Ended with a nice big round of applause. Now our version has taken on a life of its own all thanks to some great improvisation and our strong musical relationship. Wither it will be exactly the same next time is anyone's guess. That just makes things more fun. #openmic #improvisation #musicalfriends #groove #Codedrumheads #teamcode #Electroacoustic #Fenderstratocaster #funk #Guitar #guitaramp #Jadi #Jadiband #Jadielectroacoustic #Jadigig #Jadiloversrock #Jadiloves #Jadilovesfunk #Jadilovesmusic #Jadilovesska #Jadilovessoul #Jadilovesreggae #Loversrock #Ludwigdrums #reggae #Sabiancymbals #ska #soul #Vocals
