People who walk under the clock on campus bother me. You’re not subverting the idea of the superstition just by rebelling against the practice of walking around it. You’re not smarter than anyone else by knowing that you’ll still graduate on schedule even though you walked under it. Most importantly, the clock superstition is a ritual that defines “Spartanhood”. By subverting the belief in the superstition you’re still reifying it as a marker of Spartanhood, you’re just defining yourself as being outside of Spartanhood. While it’s true that enough people subverting can eventually reach a tipping point that re-evaluates the superstition as a marker, that is not a realistic goal nor a realistic outcome. Walking under the clock is not rebelling against an important cause, and it does not effect any needed change.
when I express opinions like this I make myself uncomfortable by how much of a fascist patriot I can be in some avenues.
