Till the End- Chapter 3
This chapter is more subplot based and focuses on a personal head cannon of mine. Iâll give you a link to another one of my stories that talks about it at the end (donât wanna spoil anything).
Chapter 2
Magic of thirds
When Chase returned to the cabin, the egos were all in the living room, looking like they were getting prepared for a funeral. Chase looked around at the others, he could tell from the looks on their faces that they already knew. âWhereâs Marvin?â He asked, noticing the young magician wasnât with them. Jackie boy pointed in the direction of the other rooms. He must have been in his bedroom. Marvin and Chase both had their own rooms, but when JJ showed up, they decided it was probably best if he stayed with Jackie since he was mute. One of their biggest concerns was making sure what happened to Henrik didnât happen to the new kid either.
Chase gripped the back of the couch, leaning into it. âSorry guys. He wonât help us. He said our mission is suicide,â He explained. The others just nodded, each one thinking the same thing. That Henrik was right. They didnât even know what Jackâs plan was to get rid of Anti. Heâd tried for a year now and every time, Anti would push back, only making himself stronger.
Chase couldnât take the silence anymore. He left the other egos alone for now, walking to Marvinâs room. He gently knocked on the door before letting himself in. âHey Marv,â He said, slowly peeking his head around the door. Marin was sitting on the floor flipping through a deck of cards. As Chase entered, he quickly threw his bangs down to cover his forehead.
âChase, hey come in,â He invited him, cleaning up his cards. Chase walked in closing the door behind him and joining Marvin on the floor. Part of him wondered if the magician already knew, but then he realized he was probably the one that told the others about what happened with Schneeplestein.
Chase sat across from Marvin. He noticed the magician subconsciously fiddling with his bangs, trying to keep them in place. Chase gave him a concerned look. âCome on, Marv. You told me before remember. You donât have to cover up.â
Marvin cheeks reddened. âRight, sorry Chase. Iâm just not used to⌠not hiding I guess,â He said shyly.
Chase nodded. âItâs okay Marvin. I just want you to be comfortable. Does it hurt keeping it closed all the time?â Chase hoped he wasnât crossing any lines by asking, but he knew Marvin would only tell him what he was okay with talking about.
The magician shrugged. âKinda. Itâs annoying while Iâm awake. When Iâm asleep it just kinda does itâs own thing,â He explained.
Chase shifted in his place a little. âWell if you feel comfortable, you donât have to hide while Iâm here. I donât mind,â
Marvin perked up. âReally, youâre okay with that?â He inquired.
âWell I wouldnât have offered if I wasnât okay with it. Besides youâve only showed me once. I kinda wanna see it just casually,â He tried to encourage Marvin as much as possible. He could tell the young ego was nervous but still wanted to let it out.
Marvin took a breath. âOkay if youâre sure,â He uttered moving his hair to the side. Chase watched the vertical slit in the middle of his forehead open, revealing a green eye. Marvin visibly realized, his shoulders dropping, letting out a heavy sigh.
Chase smirked. âFeeling better now?â Marvin just nodded. Chase couldnât keep from glancing at it though. The third eye was shooting looks all around the room, Chase wondered if it could even see beyond that. Every now and then it would land on Chase. He couldnât help but tense up at the look it gave. It almost felt like it was looking into his very soul. Trying to keep from being rude, Chase forced himself to draw his attention to the pile of cards Marvin was shuffling through. âSo, you trying a new trick?â He asked.
Marvin smirked, his eyes still on his cards. âYou know when itâs open I can tell what youâre feeling right?â He teased, glancing up with a smug expression.
âYou can always tell what Iâm feeling though,â Chase retorted.
âAh, no,â Marvin pointed. âThatâs only when emotions are amplified, and it effects all of us. My eye sees your aura, so I can tell youâre uncomfortable,â Marvin said sadly. He reached over to grab his mask. âHere Iâll just,â
Marvin was half way to putting it on when Chase grabbed his wrist. âNo Marv, seriously itâs okay. Iâm just not used to it is all. Iâm sorry I donât want you to think,â
âI know Chase,â Marvin put his mask down. âItâs honestly hard for me to deal with it too. Sometimes it can be a sensory overload,â Marvin made vague gestures with his hands. âSometimes the things I see are more than just feelings and thoughts. Sometimes it give me visions of the future, or the past. Sometimes I see whatâs going on in different places. Itâs so unpredictable. Sometimes,â Marvin visibly froze up, Chase noticed. âSometimes it doesnât see anything. I donât know how itâs supposed to work.â
âHave you tried controlling it?â Chase asked.
Marvin shook his head. âI donât want to control it. I donât want it to become any stronger than it is, I just want it to go away!â Marvin yelled and the stack of cards fell into a messy pile again. He looked up at it then to Chase.
âMarv?â Chase rested a hand on the magicianâs shoulder.
His eyes were lined with tears slowly streaking down his cheeks. Chase wiped them away with his thumb, looking into Marvinâs eyes, avoiding the glances his third eye gave. the two shared a gaze then Marvin sighed heavily. âItâs late, we should both go to bed,â Chase sighed, but nodded anyways, helping him clean up the cards.
The two egos said their good nights and Chase walked into the hallway. He peeked into the living room, finding it empty before retreating to his own room.
As soon as Chaseâs head hit the pillow, Henrikâs words echoed in his mind. âFighting that glitch will only lead you to an early grave.â Then he thought about Marvin. His vision, looking into the future and the past. Had he seen something? What was it about these powers that terrified him so much? Chase didnât know, and he didnât want to. He was tired, he didnât want to think about this now. All he wanted was sleep. At least he knew that would be peaceful.
