All I wanted to know was which language the Jabari tribe speak* so I could throw a word or phrase into my fanfics, but I wound up giving myself a little linguistics lesson and holy fucking shit 👀
All those terms.
There's a metric fuck ton of terms. (Already knew that, but it gets overwhelming when you pour a bunch into your brain all at once.)
And...concepts? For lack of a better word (I'm sure linguists could offer me scores).
Something that strikes me every time I think about it is how languages reflect the varied ways people view life and the world around them.
In Gaeilge and Scots Gaelic (and other Celtic languages I'm sure), they don't say, "I'm sad/happy/angry/etc." They say, "Sadness/happiness/anger/etc is on me."
"Tá fearg orm." Gaeilge: "Anger is on me."
"Tha an t-eagl orm." Scots Gaelic: "Fear is on me."
You don't become your emotions. You wear them. Like a coat. And you can take them off any time.
Same with hunger. "Tá ocras orm/Tha an t-acras orm." "Hunger is on me." Eating will fix that.
Same with love.
"Tá mo chroí istigh ionat." Gaeilge: "My heart is in you." (Oh. my. god. The Irish are so fucking poetic. They have like a dozen ways to say 'I love you,' and don't even get me started on other expressions and terms of endearment**.)
"Tha gaol agam ort." Scots Gaelic: "My love is on you." You can take it off like a coat. I'd prefer that you didn't, but it's your choice.
Anyway, I think that's a healthy perspective to have. You are not what you feel, and emotions pass eventually.
*Igbo, by the way. It's Igbo. I'm also hoping to incorporate Xhosa and Zulu.
**Okay, one. A chuisle mo chroí: pulse of my heart. Are you kidding me? Fuck outta here. If I had already reached the point where I had developed a romantic attraction to, and serious(?) relationship with someone, and he called me his heartbeat, I'm dropping my pants and we're making a baby.

Henry, hardwon or jabari?
!!!! Thanks for the ask Freyyyyyyyy
My beloved dudes!! It's a tough call between Henry and Jabari but also it isn't. Jabari my guy and my dude. He loves his friends SO much. He gets amped about hanging out with them. He's been keeping part of the (ever shrinking) Hexblood barracks pristine. He wants to go back to the way things were because then everything was simple and he got to keep his people around him and he knew what his goal was.
He's 150 years old and is both the saddest man you've ever met and gods Moxora's silliest soldier. He gets mind controlled into attacking Corbeau and there is a period of about 6 seconds in the final fight where he thinks Terragon and Corbeau are dead. He killed his mom twice. He was Moxora's favourite. He got elected chancellor of outerborough. He doesn't understand the appeal of Pillows.
Also "Jabari is making good choices :)" remains my favorite naddpod quote ever.

I’m just going to claw at your arm until you give me egg, ok?
Rockets Jabari Smith Jr. is having an identity crisis
For some NBA fans, the line between star and role player is rigid. It does not yield. If you’re a star, you’re invaluable. If you’re a role player, you’re dispensable. It’s too narrow a way of looking at basketball. Jaden McDaniels does more for your team than Zach LaVine if you want to win a championship. He just does. Yes, LaVine can score more. He can produce more offense. He’s “better” if…
👿 How forgiving is your character? Do they hold grudges? Do they ever seek revenge? (for Gianni)
🪲 Your character needs to move a bug outside--for whatever reason, killing it and leaving it alone are not options. How do they do it? (for Emerson)
🤼 Think about somebody your character loves. What's something they disagree on? (for Jabari)
😩 Your character is exhausted. Are they more likely to be exhausted physically or mentally? (for Winona)
👿 How forgiving is your character? Do they hold grudges? Do they ever seek revenge? (For Gianni)
Oh Gianni LIVES for revenge and holding grudges. This man WILL remember any slight against him and WILL get his revenge one way or another - if it's not in a violent way, it's most certainly in a way that you'll never forget...if you're left alive afterwards. If this man EVER says he forgives you for wronging him, you better start running.
🪲Your character needs to move a bug outside--for whatever reason, killing it and leaving it alone are not options. How do they do it? (For Emerson)
When Emerson first moves to the farm, I have no doubt it's a "use a broom and sweep it out" or "put a cup over it and throw it onto the porch" type of situation. After living on the farm for a bit of time, she can easily pick a bug up with their bare hands and set it out in the dirt or on the leaf of one of their flowers no problem :]
🤼 Think about somebody your character loves. What's something they disagree on? (For Jabari)
Jabari adores his husband Seargio more than anything in the world, and it's hard to find things they disagree on - however, hands down the only thing that has ever sparked a serious argument between the two and is something they disagree on is the implementation of an army in Seargio's kingdom. Jabari is a king of war, and he knows a kingdom needs protection and needs to know how to fight, which is something Seargio is not so quick to agree about...
😩 Your character is exhausted. Are they more likely to be exhausted physically or mentally? (For Winona)
I think Winona will tire physically before she does mentally. She's strong and resilient, and though she's quick to anger, she'll stay optimistic and keep her head on her shoulders even when her body gives out on her.
