SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: SO SOULFUL
Wassup neo-soul people, how are you? Hope you feel good! But if you are feeling sad or tired, i’ve got for you a sublime injection of relaxing and mellow tones of nu-soul music that will cheer you up!
I wanna start with New Zeland singer Iva Lamkum that blowed my mind with his powerful and warm voice! She released a self-titled EP that includes the lead single Kung Fu Grip a soulful deeply personal gem that exhorts to avoid judging people by their image. Iva worked also with anotha New Zeland rising group Sola Rosa!
Get familiar with Ida Divine. Staten Island femcee is trying to carve out her own lane in the music industry, working hard to show her skills! I think she got the talent as you can see with her soulful and brilliant  single called Poison! This year Ida released the mixtape called Molecular Legato.  What’s your impression about her?
JSoul is not a newcomer on scratchtheblock,he appeared on Stay Mellow ! Baltimore artist embodies so many qualites as songwriter, producer and performer and he really impressed me ! His music is soft, sweet, sultry and suitable for rendezvous between the sheets! Here you are the magic relaxing and seductive flow of It’s Up To You included on Black Sinatra.
In 2004 the golden producer Pete Rock recruited neo-soul songstress Leela James to work on No Tears from the second act of Soul Survivor! Pete  raw talent linked up with Leela mighty and hot voice creating a real masterpiece!
The interpreters of one of the best nu-soul album of 2012,Moonchild released this year a brand new single giving another evidence of their massive and genuine talent: All The Joy. Keyboard jazzy notes mash up with the smooth and airy voice of Amber Navram.
Up-n-coming neo-soul singer Olivier Daysoul is a kind of artist that you can’t miss! Why? His voice (remind me Prince)  is like butter and his music is really elegant and stylish!  He collaborated with Oddisee,Onra and with UK great producer and musician Eric Lau with whom he released the single Finer Things! Olivier dropped an EP called Mr. Saint Louis entirely produced by Oddisee.
Before joining  with YMCMB roster, PJ Morton released a spectacular album in 2005,Emotions! I choose the best track of the entire album, No Ordinary Love!
This is one of my faves : Ridin High by Platinum Pied Pipers! This track is a cover of 1977 single by Faze-O… Platinum are anotha tangible proof of Detroit quality music in the hip hop underground game! They released the acclaimed Triple P with the collaboration of many guru like: Sa-Ra,Jay Dilla and Spacek!
I’ve got on my hands another surprise from Amsterdam: Secret Rendezvous a duo composed by Musiex (singer) and Sausbei (producer). In 2008 they released a soul album called Come A Little Bit Close under the name of  Talking Loud but in 2011 they decided to work on a new project in order to spread an alternative brand new beat! So as themselves say:”Think Soul music, but added with Psychedelic Rock influences from the 60′s and electronic influences from the 80′s”. They changed their name in Secret Rendezvous (to celebrate the mixture, the rendezvous between several genres) and released their album called Paint The Townred. Here you are their “business card” Cruise For A Minute.
This year we saw the come back of one of the most interesting collective,The Foreign Exchange with their Love In Flying Colors. Nicolay & Co. bring our soul into their proverbial elegant flow… Listen to tracks like Listen To The Rain or Right After Midnight with Sy Smith is an uplifting experience! For you i put on this selection Better with Eric Roberson and NY songstress Shana Tucker!
