Talk to me about Loopholes- Hyrule Fae Trickery - LU pretty please? As a lawyer fae rules are near and dear to my heart.
Bet! In this one, I wanted to take the idea of Hyrule being part fae and exaggerate it. He's living amongst the fairies, he's more accustomed to their way of living, he's got a stronger connection to his fae side than he often gets portrayed with in fandom, etc, just for fun haha like, he knows his fae side, the power it gives him, and he intends to make full use of it to stay safe!
I feel like I've given a snippet of this somewhere before, but I don't remember what of, so I'll just .. give a really long one, and then a bonus, plus a few Notes
Under the cut because it's long!
Fairies flutter around the boy who peers out at Time with big, wary eyes. “How did you find me?” “I didn't intend to. There was fairy magic in the area - I followed that, thinking maybe there was a fairy fountain. Great Fairies are knowledgeable, and I was hoping for information.” Several of the fairies come to investigate Time, chiming happily as they circle him. The boy’s brows furrow as he studies him. “They like you,” he says softly. Time smiles. “I've spent quite a bit of time around them. Maybe they can sense that I'm familiar with them. You've spent a lot of time with them too, huh?” The boy nods slowly. Time studies the boy for a moment; his hazel eyes, bright from under the shaggy fluff of light brown hair, and cheeks smeared with dirt. Even holed up like he is, the man can tell the kid is scrawny. He glances at the green tunic, the sword clutched not quite entirely out of view behind his legs. “I don't suppose your name is Link,” Time tries. “I’m called Rulie,” he replies. “Are you looking for Link?” “Ah, you know him?” “Yes.” “Would you take us to him?” Time asks. “Us?” “Yes, myself and the group I'm with.” His eyes narrow. “Why? What do you want from him?” “Nothing bad,” Time says quickly. “We’re looking for the hero to see if he'd like to help us with an important quest.” Rulie looks apprehensive, gaze flicking briefly to Time’s sword. “I don't trust people with weapons.” “I promise we won't hurt you,” Time assures him. “But I'm… different,” he replies, voice hesitant. “Some people want to hurt me for it.” Pity and anger knots in Time’s chest. There are people who want to hurt this kid? “Different…?” Rulie opens his mouth, then closes it and looks away. “You don't have to share if you don't want to,” Time tells him. “We all have our secrets. That's okay. No matter what it is, we won't hurt you for it, okay?” “Or use it against me?” “Or use it against you,” Time says. He wonders what the secret could be that has this child so afraid. “You promise?” “Promise.” The boy chews on his lip in thought for a moment before warning, “It might take quite a while before you get introduced to Link.” “That's fine. We're used to long travels.” Though Time has a feeling the boy’s concern is less about how long they'll be traveling and more about how long he'll have to travel with them in order to lead them to Link. It’s obvious the boy is incredibly distrustful. He must have had some seriously bad experiences with people. “About my secret… If… if I were to tell you, or…” His voice drops to a mumble as he looks down. “Or you found out…” There is a pause before he looks at Time again. “I don't want you to tell the others,” he says slowly. “I’d want to tell them myself when I'm ready. I want your words’o I know I can trust you on that.” “Then you have it,” Time replies. “I promise I won't tell them whatever it is about yourself you don't want me to share, alright?” “Alright,” he says. Meekly, he looks away, almost shy. “Um, could I have your name?” “You can call me Time,” he tells him, offering a hand out to the boy. “I can take you to the others, if you'd like.” He stares at Time’s outstretched hand, lips twisting in a flash of what almost looks like annoyance for a moment before crawling out and standing without taking his hand. Maybe he sees my offering of my hand as a sign that I view him as weak. “Lead the way,” Rulie says, and as the fairies flutter away from him as they begin walking in the direction of camp, Time realizes he might have made a small mistake. The fairy magic he is so familiar with doesn't leave with the fairies but continues to shimmer off of the boy.

“Are you… the hero we're looking for?” “If I was, would I be wasting my time leading you across these lands, all for nothing?” Rulie asks flatly. Time's lips thin. “I suppose not.” Rulie is relieved Time believes him so easily, but there’s also a tinge of disappointment that flares up inside of him. It’s as though Time had just said, You're right. A real hero would never waste the time and risk the well-being of other heroes like this. "Don't get your hopes up, by the way," he can't help but say. "I think you'll be disappointed when you find out what the hero is like."
^ masterful way of getting around lying is to just ask questions back lol. "Do you really think I'd do that?" "If I'd done that, don't you think I would have-?" "Why would you ask me of all people?" Etc
Aaaand now onto some of my notes!
Time is like, trying to keep everyone from falling into fae traps bcuz he knows but already promised not to tell. He also had promised they won't hurt him (promises are important !!) and then someone trips over Hyrule in the middle of the night and it hurts and now he's mad at Time for breaking his promise Hyrule, shyly: Could I have your names then? I want to know what I should call you. 👉👈 Time trying to cover like five mouths at once: You can call me Time, and you can call him Wind and him Twilight and- Hyrule staring at Time with barely concealed murder in his eyes: Okay cool :) Hyrule to Warriors later: Gee that's some nice armor. I bet you're the kind of person who's got a last name and everything. Warriors: Actually, yeah, most of the boys here don't, but I- Time: CAPTAIN I NEED YOU FOR A SECOND Time is sacrificing himself to an angry fae to protect the chain 😔 he's gonna find one of his swords replaced with a stick and wind up tripping on air and stuff. Get pranked, jerk
Four catches on pretty quick to how Hyrule doesn't give without expecting a return and doesn't take without giving something back asap, so the moment Hyrule gives him something, he tries to give him something back, or asks, “hey, you prefer a balance of giving and receiving, right? What do you think is a fair return for what you gave me?” And Hyrule thinks for a moment and says, “would you share your favorite memory with me?” and Four does. And then Hyrule can have the same memory. It's shared between them - they both have it now. Hyrule can “remember” it sort of as though it were his own. He tries to do that, collect shared memories with people, good memories, because he wants good memories.
Would you do me a favor and grab me that thing over there?” And is the keyword if they agree. Now they owe him a favor, along with having to grab the thing
“Can I have a word?” Can choose a word that person is no longer able to say it or MUST say it depending on what Hyrule wants
“Would you spare me a minute of your time?” If yes, he can steal away a minute of their memory! Or they owe him a minute of their time of his choosing in the future.
“Would you kindly [blank]?” Now they have to do whatever they do kindly
“Could I have your [XYZ] for a few minutes?” Yes? Well that moment doesn't have to be now!
“Could I interest you in [xyz]?” If so, the person becomes very interested in the item
Similarly to dodging accusations via questions, there's: “You could say that [xyz]” - he's not lying. The other person COULD say that. “You could say that he's a pretty terrible person” could technically be said about a great person!
Anyway. The only person he'll have pretty full control over (if he chooses to use it) is Wild because Wild is the only idiot who actually decides to eat the food he made one night LOL everyone else bowed out of that one. But he does eventually get a slight level of influence over the others - everyone but Warriors, Time, and Four until he learns their last names, because I think those three are probably the only ones with last names 🤔 and while a full fae might have slight influence over someone with only their first name, he's not powerful enough, so he can't do diddly squat that way until he gets their surnames too
