Tybal ran a wing over Ixazaluoh’s spine, and she curled closer into his side with a lazy yawn.
“So how was your day?”
With a shrug, Tybal answered, “Went as well as could be expected. Korst is still ignoring me,” he added with a grin. “Can’t say I miss her grumbling.” Ixazaluoh laughed, and Tybal smiled and intertwined his neck with hers. “Also, I got into another fight with Radiance. It was about you-”
“You don’t need to do that, really,” Ixa sighed with a twitch of her ears. “I can take care of myself.” Sighing, Tybal nodded.
“Oh,” said the female imperial suddenly, “I got you something at market day!”
Immediately, Tybal straightened up, his ears tilted forwards curiously. His mate reached into her back and rummaged around for a moment before removing a delicately crafted piece of jewelry decorated with glittering red wings.
“Bracelets,” Ixa said with a smile, and flicked her tail at the matching anklets wrapped around his hind legs. “They’re from the same jeweler as your anklets.”
“Thank you,” said Tybal, and took the bracelets from his mate’s claws. He fitted them around his own wrists, and flopped onto his side. After a moment, Ixa coiled down beside him and closed her eyes, and Tybal draped a protective wing over her.
As soon as he thought the other imperial had fallen asleep, Tybal whispered, “I love you.”
Ixa smiled and looked up at Tybal, who jerked his head back with a start. She chuckled and whispered back, “I love you too.”
