What is In Want of Match?

In Want of Match is a dating sim ttrpg!

I was inspired by dating sim video games and LOVE romance in games and was inspired to make this so I could keep the romance train rolling.

A voicey narrator leads you through dating in the wild and wacky City of Love. This GMless game allows each player to take turns asking out other PCs.

On each date you roll for Romance Points. There are two character types - and many different ways to build your characters!

This game is based on a trait vs. trait character creation system, with nine opposing traits!

Two character examples from In Want of a Match!

In Want of a Match is a TTRPG inspired by dating sims. You play two different PCs each game (a One True Match and a Opposites Attract).

The stats are determined on a scale, your character landing on one side of two traits.

The Traits: Adventurous/Cautious Blunt/Tactful Casual/Serious Demure/Show Dreamy/Grounded Easygoing/Tense Practical/Romantic Skeptical/Trusting

My friends and I played IWOAM for the first time since I changed the game from trying to reach a certain number of points to playing by round - and honestly I like this version way better.

But the point of this post is to discuss the way we played it. We played it by building blorbos from our home dnd games in the game.

And chaos ensued. One character was on a quest to romance every dilf he met, two mercenaries fuckednasty even though they never should have worked out on paper, we had aasimar4aasimar, nervous4nervous.

It was so fun to see which characters could build up Romance Points with each other, and RPing the dates ended up being so so silly.

This playtest did also inspire me to type up a longer example to include in the game itself, and explain the Romance Points in depth.

Anyway - sometimes what you really need to understand a game is a silly playthrough.
