CHIVALRY, WHERE HAS IT GONE?
I think, in a way, I can quite understand how my dad feels raising us up. My dad has a very 'refined' way of speaking. He selects his wording carefully. My mom said its because he is from Pasir Mas; and Pasir Mas people 'kecek beghaluh'. Haha.
So as we were growing up and learned how to talk the talk, he would get offended when he heard us say things like 'Gilalah', 'Bapak arh', 'aku', 'kau' you know, things that aren't offensive to us cause we talked like that at school with friends. It's the norm for us. Dad would get really cross if he heard us speak like that in front of him. And we didn't understand why?
Fast forward to now, quite recently while I was waiting in line to pay for groceries, I heard a bunch of girls speaking about another girl whom was not on friendly terms with them (I was not eavesdropping mind you. They were conversing pretty loud) Then, shockingly the girl just up and called the other girl 'Damn Bitch' (pardon my French ladies and gentlemen) I cringed. Judging from her face, you would not believe that that girl is capable of such colourful language.
As I was driving back, a thought struck me, "That must be how abah felt." Just how I am shocked by the girl's language cause it is not the norm for me to throw in the B word in my conversation that is how my dad felt when we said 'gila' and what not. Back then, the word 'gila' holds a heavy meaning, its like an insult? (correct me if I'm wrong) Before the internet, the B word is a serious insult. AND I DO MEAN SERIOUS. You don't blatantly go and call someone a B-word. The meaning itself is derogatory. But now, it can be used as a term of endearment?!
In the light of all this, all I wanted to say is that time have truly changed. Even though we are advanced in many fields, it seems we are going the opposite way in the mannerism aspects. If your parents/grandparents ever send love letters or any personal letters in general, do me a favor and try to read it. Realize what our generation is missing out. #Bringbackchivalry #Chivalryisnotdeadbutgoingtobeifwecontinuelikethis #peaceout
