A hot plate of omurice.
Itto x gn!reader! Hurt/Comfort + established relationship + drabble + wholesome + fluff
With a sizzle on a pan, you tossed and twisted your hands to create a godly omurice. Crisp, yellow and hot, you served it on a plate at the dining table, the smell wafting through the home you owned with your boyfriend, Arataki “The One and Oni” Itto.Â
The big guy was out for a “gang meeting” - despite him not seeming to have done anything productive every meeting - and you wanted to prepare a nice, hot meal for him before he came home. Usually, you have your own work things to do but you just felt like doing something nice for him today. Setting up the table with a sweetly scented butterscotch candle with sodas on the side, the house was candlelit-dinner ready and waiting for Itto to come home to you.Â
You couldn’t wait. Whenever he came home, it was like a ray of sunshine had burst through the door, spurting out the contents of his day to you as he squeezed you tightly. His big arms would envelop you like he was a friendly bear and it made you feel warmer than a blanket in the summer.
“I’m home.” A familiar voice deadpanned throughout the house as the door opened. Itto! You jumped in excitement to see your boyfriend, only to be met with a man who had his horns turned downwards, almost like those sad puppies with their ears. He pat you on the back (which he almost never does) and takes off to his room.
This confused you. No hug? No adventures today? Itto seemed a bit… dulled.Â
But alas, you tried to ignore it.Â
“So,” You tried to prompt him to start talking first. “What’d you do today? How’s the gang?”
“Nothing much. Everything went fine.” Itto shortly said, a juxtaposition from how he usually acted. By now he would have talked about how he found an onikabuto today and how he fought someone super powerful and threw them in the river but it was actually the shogunate and he was indirectly asking you to cover him from Kujou Sara. But no, everything went “fine”.Â
You didn’t want to force an answer out of him, so you just let him change out of his normal outfit and into something comfortable. “Okay, dinner’s on the table when you’re ready.” You said, caressing his arm comfortingly.Â
Dinner was even worse. You’d think Itto, the one and Oni, would have appetites larger than the seven seas and Teyvat itself, but he played with his food as he stared into space. And as ridiculous as it may sound, it concerned you. A lot. Even when you called out to him, he’d give a short, enthusiastic answer and go back to spacing out.Â
“Itto,” You reached out to him, holding onto his wrist so he would notice the contact. “You’ve been acting weird… You alright?”Â
“Babe, we don’t have to do this, you know.” Itto grumbled, not wanting to worry you too much. “I’m fine, I swear.”
As he stared into your face, scrunching up his eyebrows in thought of what to reply with, he tried to muster up an answer that was good enough for you. Times like these, he knew he couldn’t be stubborn and hold in his feelings anymore. He sighed and put down his utensils as he explained.
“It’s just sometimes,” Itto scratched his head as if he felt stupid saying this out loud. He didn’t want to seem weak, especially not in front of you, the love of his life. He was supposed to be your hero, your “one and oni”. Not some weak guy who gets affected by his emotions. “I feel like I’m not good enough. For you… For everyone, really. Especially the gang…”
You frowned as Itto let you carry his self doubt, you getting closer every word and slowly hugging him as he explained. “Now- usually, what other people think don’t affect me that much. But now that I’m with you, and I have the gang too… I have to be a good leader, ya know?”
“Itto, you are good enough,” You caressed his muscly shoulder in comfort as you spoke into his ear like a mother. “You’ll always be good enough.”
“That’s just what you say. But the rest? No one else thinks I’m capable of anything other than trouble. Earlier, Mamoru and I argued about the whole… gang thing. How we haven’t done anything interesting and that we sat around and played games the whole time. It wasn’t that serious.
“But then, later on, I overheard some people talking about me - crazy, right? I have Oni senses, of course I can hear you from a mile away. Anyway, they were talking about the gang and just how everyone wouldn’t be in a bad position or reputation if I didn’t go around priding myself on creating trouble.” Itto sighed, scratching his head. Now, he really felt stupid. He couldn’t face you. “Then, they brought up you. How you would be doing so much better without me if you had just gotten together with someone else. Like, bro Ayato, or Thoma. They had money, they had class, and they had a reputation. Me? What do I have? A single coin of Mora and a bunch of people who think I’m not capable of doing anything other than creating trouble.”
Itto groaned, his back completely turned to you. But you stood right behind him, hugging him from the back. Squeezing him warmly, you spoke softly.
“Itto…” You let your warmth transfer over to his skin, making sure he felt every ounce of comfort from you. “I love you. I love you so, so much.
“I wish I knew how to make you stop feeling like this. But you’re so loved. The gang loves you, I love you, Granny Oni loves you… You’re so loved and so needed.”
Even though Itto was still frowning, you smiled a little and tried to cheer him up by taking a spoon and putting it by his mouth. “Now eat. I know you’re hungry.”
“No, I’m not.”Â
A grumble left Itto’s stomach, loudly breaking the silence. Itto sheepishly looked at you ashamed and let out a frustrated “Fine”.
Reluctantly, Itto let you feed him as you sat by his side. As the hot omurice touched his tongue, his eyes instantly forgot his problems and was taken aback by how good the food was.Â
“Dude. Baaabe… You cooked this? For me?” Itto’s eyes sparkled, as he took the spoon and ate more of the big portion you gave him on his plate. “This is so awesome!”
“Aww, stop it.” You flushed as you let him enjoy the food, happy to be able to take his mind off of the food. You caressed his shoulder comfortingly. “I just want you to feel good.”
“This is making me feel the best.” Itto smiled, feeling the warmth of your omurice go down to his belly, filling the lost appetite. “I love this so much. I love you so much.”Â
As Itto finished the food and practically licked the plate clean, he gave you a big warm comforting hug to make up for earlier. “I’m sorry about earlier, I hate being sad around you.”
“Itto, you can always be sad around me. I love when you’re sad around me,” You paused. “Wait, that sounded wrong. I meant that I love when you’re vulnerable around me, and I want to see every part of you. That’s how much I love you.”
Itto practically teared up. “Man… Don’t talk anymore, you’re gonna make me cry.”
You let Itto hug you, giving the biggest squeeze back to him to let him know it’s okay. As you stroked his back, you lightly kissed his shoulder. Itto hummed, letting you comfort him and envelope him with the love that he needs.Â
