[@itsyobirthd4y] Unfairness at its finest
Ratio had been out of town for work when the accident happened -- and hearing about it and its consequences first thing as soon as he stepped in Toshi City again had been a bit too much for him to handle. To the point of the doctor needing a day and a half before he gathered up enough courage to make his way to the hospital.
It's like when you hide from certain possibilities in fear of them being real.
The thought of an amnesiac Birthday didn't quite register in his mind.
But there had been no escape from the truth once he entered the blond's room and was greeted by the gaze of someone that did not recognize him. That had no idea who he was at all.
For a moment Ratio forgot how to breathe. The pressure squeezing his chest tight was uncomfortable and his arms felt strangely heavy, gloved fingers gripping harder at the tabled in his hand. Birthday didn't remember about him. Didn't remember about their promises, didn't remember about everything they've been through together all those years, didn't remember--
He remembered himself, snapping out of the negative thoughts.
Birthday is alive and that's all that should matter. He's alive and Ratio was there to take care of him. Like it should be. So he took in a deep breath, swallowed dry, and then made his way to the bed with slow steps after sliding the door closed behind him.
This certainly wasn't the time to let himself be consumed by sadness--
"I will be your doctor from today onwards."
--and still Ratio couldn't help but wonder. What else would life take from him?
