want one?
1, 4, 8, 10, 27, 39
1. things that inspire you
personal life experiences is a big one. i like taking things i’ve either lived through or lived right alongside someone else’s experience of it, and sticking in into my fics. movies, poetry, and (sometimes) music can also give me ideas, or i find something about it cool BUT IF ONLY THEY HAD GONE THIS WAY WITH IT . . . and then i take that and start carving out my own version of it. and the characters themselves. there’s also stuff i want to see, or parallels that i think are cool, and i’ll want to take those bits and try to create stories around them.
4. name three authors that were influential to your work and tell why
hemingway. which, as a caveat, i really hate hemingway. i find him incredibly boring and pompous to read. but i like the minimalism with which he writes. it pains me to have really long sentences and i try really hard not to over-describe. faulkner is another (god, this list is pretentious) because he has a really solid, unique voice. acd is a third, just because anytime i write victorian, it’s probably hugely influenced by the way he wrote.
there’s also a ton of fic writers who i’ve been reading for like the last 20 years that have been hugely inspirational. there’s definitely a unique tone imo to fic. we’re our own genre of writing. we have our own tropes. we have a certain voice that is shared more or less as a community. they’re the people i used to want to write like, before i started to find my own voice, and they had a huge impact on how i view writing and what i want to get from writing.
8. what time are you most productive?
dude, if i knew the answer to this, i’d probably be a hell of a lot more prolific. generally in the mornings (like 4 - 12), but ha ha i also work during those times so boo.
10. how do you do your researches?
with the googles. (and sometimes books or documentaries. i love history so i have a huge collection of history books.)
27. best review you ever got
man, i don’t know. i’ve gotten so many great reviews that have either deeply touched me or made me laugh or both. right now, my fav commentary on something i wrote isn’t a review but a comment @amazinmango left when he was beta’ing Well Suited where he just circled an entire page and wrote JERK :( in the margins.
GOALS AS AN ARTIST.
39. do you want to be published some day?
i would like that. i’ve been published academically, so, hey, one life goal achieved. but it’d be cool to publish fiction as well. WE’LL SEE i guess.
send me asks for fanfic writers
i hope you feel better soon my love!!! *sends flowers and kisses*
