I sent you a question about outlining long fics a few days ago and i just wanted to follow up by asking for some advice -- usually for me, I have a fic idea and I just write and it usually works out, but i'm trying to actually draft out a plan this time and I have something, but I don't love it. I'm not sure how to proceed next -- i have plot points, but I can't seem to sit down and start it. I don't really know what I'm asking here but Im just a little lost for this fic I guess 😅
hey there, beans! I know how you feel, I’m trying to outline my valentine exchange fic at the moment, and am not liking anything i’m putting down. Honestly? For me, that means scrap it. Not the whole thing, but the bits you don’t like. If you don’t like it, you’re not gonna write it. Or at least, that’s how it is for me.
It’s okay to leave blank space, a lot of the time they will fill in naturally as you go. You don’t have to write in order, either. I have a separate document for each story called “[story name] fragments” so I can write the scenes that are important or really vivid in my head before I lose them.
Starting can be hard! I don’t always have a start, or an ending. Sometimes I dont have the middle. Sometimes i’ve got all the pieces and no motivation XD like, with a softer beginning, I know what the last line will be, i know how im going to get there, but chapter 4? maybe its 5 had a HUGE hole i need to fill.
so, yeah, i dunno what my advice is here, to be honest, except that it’s better to just begin writing and not worry too much about starting at the..well..start. :D
Also outlining on paper helps! I do rough drafts of outlines on paper first. and they usually SUCK lmao and then i refine as i go.
