All that "word" means is that the writer has made a mistake. So...one needs "it's" if one needs "it is" or "it has." Otherwise, your only other choice is this word: its.

IT’S It’s is a contraction for it is or it has.

A Good Rule of Thumb: If you can replace it with his or her, there's no apostrophe.
