There’s been an issue arising, and it’s that I’m Out of Things to Rant About. thats what this site is for. But I found it so don’t worry
I’ve been noticing a lot of art depicting the protagonists from DOORS, Pressure, and Grace (with a little bit of Rooms in there) and you guys don’t understand. I’m the number one fan of this. No one else. I love it. There’s so much to compare and contrast, and the dynamics… ugh… how could anyone not love it
And genuinely, there’s so much interesting SIMILARITIES. Think about the assisting forces for each of the main three. One seeks to be active and help the player as much as possible. Another forces with fear and sheer power into getting what they want. And the last one loves unconditionally, but encourages suffering for their greater good. It’s so interesting.
Do you think the EXR-P wishes that there was someone that loved them deep in the Let-Vand Zone? Do you think the Sinner looks at the Architects and HQ and yearns to have figures like them? Figures that could do more for them? Does the Hotel Guest ever miss GL when they’re forced into Grace or the Blacksite?
And antagonists too. The way Mischevious Light mirrors Guiding Light in a way Sin mirrors God, and how the entities in Grace are the sins in the Sinner’s life, like how each and every entity that claims thousands of prisoners is a piece of Urbanshade’s actions coming to bite them when the lockdown occured. The parallels are so damn intriguing.
On top of that, look at the reasons why the three of them are doing this in the first place. The Sinner seeks redemptiom and yearns for the light at the end of the tunnel. The EXR-P wanted out of prison, which quickly turned into a matter of survival and wanting out of the Blacksite. It’s much more vague for the Guest, but it’s hinted that a part of it is simple exploration, curiosity, and understanding (You sometimes tell El Goblino in the Hotel that you’re here for door 100 and that you don’t know how you’re here), and you can also make so many connections there. Think about the files the Expendable seems interested enough to peek at, and how it connects to the Guest’s seemingly more explorative nature. And how the Sinner and EXR-P want to be forgiven for what they’ve done, and how the Guest wants to see what they can find, while the Sinner disregards the things they see in pursuit of their goal.
This nicely transitions into their personalities and what we can get from the snippets of the gameplay. As I mentioned earlier, the Guest seems a lot more friendly, curious, and wants to explore and look at things. I mentioned these for the reasons above, but also because the Hotel Guest is able to go off the beaten path and enter subfloors for no real reason other than “It looks intriguing”. Their animations in the cutscenes also depict them as being very relaxed, which gives a surprising lot for a blank slate character.
The Expendable can be mainly shown as one thing: Timid. They panic and become frantic out of their mind with the parasites, the gun to their head, with the mic in the Dead Seater room, and it’s not like it’s for no good reason. They know how powerless they are. However, their ability to pet the bunnies, their odd looks and reaction to the crystal when securing it, and subtle flare with the flash beacon does reveal more playful traits. It might just be the fear suppressing it, though.
And for the Sinner? Driven, motivated, and shares that similar loyalty that the EXR-P has, but towards God. The fact that they’re here in the first place says a lot; they’ve been not the best in the past, but is willing to change and become better. And oh, are they willing to fight for it. They rush from safe room to safe room, attempting to brush aside anything potentially sinful or harmful because they desperately want the suffering to end. Not that they’re simpleminded, of course, because they can effeciently deal with the entities with vague drawings alone.
There is so much substance here. I know I’m ranting but it’s because I love them all. I want a fic where they all gang up on the A-60 they all know and hate. or one where urbanshade contains the Guest and Sinner thanks to the Hotel Guest’s crucifix and the Sinner’s ungodly stamina (and maybe the office Worker for being associated with the rooms). A fic where all three of them talk about the religious stuff in their places (the architects, banlands, and God respectively). One where everyone is preparing for an intense final encounter in various ways (caring for a lotus, tinkering/warming up the defibrilator, simply just praying) and oh my god. I need them all,
