The Pretty Blue Star
In the dark of night, a light shone, leaking through the cracks in the curtains and window sill. A young boy, too young to really remember anything, crawled out of his bed, little feet pitter-pattering across the cold, wooden floor.
His room was dark, the kind of dark that allowed the monsters and demons to run free, with every nook and cranny engulfed in complete blackness. The walls, which when lit shown the color of a bright blue sky, were a deep indigo. The childish toys and knickknacks that covered his room changing suddenly into monsters of their own.
The phenomenon of dark and horrifying fear was normal for children at this age, for no one really knows what the darkness holds. However, for this little boy, this special little boy who would grow up to save the world, darkness ran from him, chased away by a powerful and pure light.
The stars above his bedroom beamed, but none brighter than one specific star, a pulsing brilliant blue. The star illuminated the little boys bedroom, smiting the demons and monsters that hid in the dark. It was then that the little boy came to the realization that this exquisite, guardian angel of a star would keep the him safe from the monsters for years to come. So, he ran to the window, his little feet slipping and sliding on the wooden floor, mismatched dinosaur socks providing little friction. He swung open the the curtains from which the light was shining through, and let the light in, his star-filled green eyes shining with the reflection of vivid blue light.
All of a sudden, darkness no longer existed, as the room filled with light, kindness, and love, and the dazzeling blue star shined with all its might on the little boy, seeming to smile down on the beautiful creature.
The little boy would never know, but in that moment, the star had found its purpose. It would protect him, give him everything it could. The star would do anything for the little boy, even fall, as it one day would, for it was predestined that one day the star would fall for the most righteous of all souls. As the star saw the shining green of the little boy’s eyes--almost as bright as the stars themselves--all the pieces fell into place, and it knew this was the point of no return, and without hesitation, it joyously crossed it.

With each passing year, the boy grew older, and the star kept shining, refusing to let the darkness touch the brilliance of the boy’s soul. Still, life has consequences, and it took a toll on the boy’s life. The light that once shone so bright in his heart and soul was dimming, but it never really left. A light that bright can never fade completely.
Although the star continued to watch over the boy, it could not be seen when the sun shone.  During these points in the day, the vibrancy of the boy’s soul would dim, and in return, the star refused to shine as bright. It was as though without the star, the boy was incomplete, only a piece of a much larger puzzle.
Because of this, night was when the boy and the star both radiated their most dazzling light, the darkness nothing more than a minuscule, nagging feeling in the back of their minds.
Over the years, the boy had come to notice glistening brilliance of the strange blue star, and how he could see it no matter where he was.
The star moved with him, never really letting the boy out of its sight for too long. In return, the boy never grew tired of the shimmering blue light that engulfed his room every night. In many ways, the star had become a comfort, a special gift just for him.
On the days where life had the boy falling to pieces, the star would watch, filled with its own sadness as it could not stand to see the boy in pain. Finally the star would concentrate extra hard and increase it's glow by just enough that the boy would notice.
The first time this happened was in the wake of flames. The boy had lost his mother to heat, fire, and the walls of a burning house, and that night, the boy truly cried for the first time. That night, the reds and oranges overpowered the star. That night, it desired nothing more than to protect the boy from the monsters created by the flames, but it couldn’t. It wasn't until the boy was taken to a safe house and put to sleep that the star was finally able to break through the walls and bring comfort to the boy. At that moment, when the glistening shimmer of the blue star returned to the night and chased away the monsters, the boy's tears slowed, faded, and eventually stopped.
Thank you.
The boy whispered the words, and the star knew that they for meant for it.
With one last pulse of spectacular light, the star watched as the boy finally fell asleep.

The boy never spoke of the mystical star to anyone. It was his own special secret that no one had to know of. That is, all except for one person.
The boy had a little brother, whom he cared for more than anything else, including himself. The boys' father was rarely around, so the older brother raised and took care of younger one mostly own his own.
Later in life, on his brother’s fourteenth birthday, the boy decided it was time to show him his star. So that night, the two boys stayed up late, waiting for the star.
What’s the surprise Dean?
The younger brother kept pestering the green-eyed boy on why they were staying up so late. No one had ever seen this before, his older brother assured him, creating an unquenchable curiosity in the younger boy’s mind.
Shhh. Sammy. You’ll see.
The younger brother’s eyes, a deep, chocolatey brown, were flecked with gold as he peered into the night sky and the thousands of stars. To him, they all looked the same. No star beamed more vibrant than the others. He peered at his older brother, confusion and a little disappointment speckled across his face.
Where?
Right there.
The older brother pointed to where his special blue star shimmered, light dimmed as to not give itself away, but as the star watched the younger brother’s curious eyes squint at it, the realization came through. All of a sudden, the star’s light doubled, easily flooding the night sky and engulfing the two boys in light.
A gasp filled the air, the younger boy’s mouth forming a perfect circle in awe. He looked up at the older brother--the green-eyed boy who the star would give anything for--and smiled, joy filling his eyes as spun around the room taking in the illumination. The scene caused the older boy to smile, a rare thing after the flames. His smile reached his eyes, creating little wrinkles of skin at the corners.
Seeing the two boys so filled with merriment over something as simple as the light, the star swelled with a new level of delight, beaming brighter than the green-eyed boy had never seen, than no one had ever seen. It was a fulfillment of glee, but a sad truth at the same time, for the eruption of light marked a beautifully tragic ending for the star.
Slowly, but surely, the star’s light dimmed until it faded completely, and it fell to the earth. Green eyes locked on the last tendrils of dazzling blue as they fell, knowing it would be the last time his special star would shine.
The younger brother watched sorrowfully, knowing how much the star had meant to his brother. He tried to show him comfort with a hand on his shoulder, but the older boy’s eyes were entranced on the falling sparks.
I love you
The words were whispered by an unknown voice.
The star hit the ground, utterly and completely filled with contentment to end this way, for there was really no way to deny that it would always have fallen in the end.
