It only hurts || Gen & Mason
Genevieve looked down at her lavender colored dress. She wasn’t technically working today so she couldn’t exactly wear her photography clothes, which usually consisted of a t-shirt and jeans; she was doing this for fun. “Shit. These heels are really killing my feet!” cried Genevieve as she almost tripped over the pavement. “And this is why I should have stayed home.” Genevieve whispered as she pushed her hair out of her face and stood, letting the little street light vanish as she disappeared into the dark. Gen grabbed the hem of her dress, her black purse hung underneath her arm, and her phone in the other, cars moving past her until she finally came to a stop, standing in front of a restaurant door. She had been here once before, but not as Genevieve. It was when she used to go by the name of Sky.
She’d remembered the day when Ian had invited a few of the strippers, including Rebecca, to lunch. It had been a day she couldn’t forget. She pictured Ian as his fingers touched her arm and the way his mouth inched closer to her ear. It was that same day Rebecca had told Ian to back off but of course that didn’t sit too well with him. Gen never could understand why she had stood up for her, it didn’t make sense. Yes, they were the best of friends, but no one ever told Ian no or at least not those who were used for his own personal entertainment.
Gen spent the next five minutes or so looking at herself through the glass, losing herself in her thoughts. Sometimes she thought of nothing and then she thought of everything. By the time she was done with her worrying her hair was sticking to her forehead with sweat, her skin frozen and her nose red, her breath visible in the cold, crisp winter air. It was lonely out here. It was missing life, happiness. She was only a few seconds away from walking into a complete crowd but she felt that even with thousands of people around her it would still be missing a certain essence. Maybe it was guilt over Rebecca and Steven or maybe it was her just wanting to have her friend back. It was something she didn’t want to dwell on. With a sigh Gen began to inch closer to the door, not bothering with the hem of her dress as her feet grew sore, she dropped her phone.
She bent to pick it up and felt something hit the top of her head. She placed a hand to the wound as she looked up to see what it had been. The door. She closed her eyes for a few moments and sucked in the air before standing.
