I find it extraordinary that when we read books we create not only an entire world filled with feelings and sounds and sights in our minds, but our very own versions of these people that we come to know as well as ourselves.  Inside us they take on a life. We give it to them. We decide what they sound like when they talk, the emotions behind their words, how they feel when they take on those massive tasks that have been handed to them, and how they deal with the inevitable toll that it takes. In our imaginations we create their feelings, their emotions, their relationships and their reactions.  I find it amazing that when we pick up a book, and open those pages, for a small amount of time we have a different world with so many different lives existing inside of us.  But, what I find even more amazing than that, is that even though we create them wholly in our minds, and we hold their existence firmly in ourselves, these people we've created still have the ability to surprise us. And with that, we too surprise ourselves. That is what I find extraordinary.
