Back with another playlist on Spotify! Now that I’m on my second playlist in the series, I decided I wanted to write a little bit about this one. I’ve always loved tech house but it’s taken a backseat in my collection until recently. I listened to the ItaloJohnson Berlin Boilerroom set and was inspired. I made some exciting discoveries. 

Tracks by Marcman, Neil Parkes, Paneoh and Dorisburg were among my new discoveries. Marcman is a Romanian tech house artists. His industrial machine-esque sound really inspired this playlist. I have been on the look out for similar artists, but so far I’ve found hardly anyone who captures the same kind of sound. I hoped to include ItaloJohnson’s ‘ITJ10 A1′, which also inspired the playlist, but it wasn’t on Spotify. 

I’ve also included some artists that I’ve been following for a while, including Martinet (Huxley) and Black Loops, who have always been some of my favourite tech house artists. I wouldn’t call tech house my favourite sub genre of house, but I don’t like to keep my ears in the same place all the time!

Track Rundown

ItaloJohnson - ITJ10B1

Hits you immediately with a heavy kick, clap and then hits you again at 15 seconds with a deep, powerful bassline. My two favourite things in these sorts of tracks are bizarre noises and a rattling, industrial drum beat. This track provides both in the best of ways.

Dimension Sculpture - Dorisburg

This one is begging for a fat sound system and a warehouse. Great use of reverb and echo. Would love to hear (and feel) this at a venue like Motion Bristol. Just when you think it ain’t got more to offer, it comes in with an acidy synth that adds a whole new dimension to the track. Dramatic. Epic.  

Dici - Marcman

This one ticks like a clock. One bass tone is surprisingly plenty. Sounds like a machine. Really epitomises its genre. The percussion makes this track and I’m a massive fan of the snares.

The Point - Black Loops

This one blew my head off first time I heard it. Eerie vocals makes a dramatic build up tenser still as it builds and builds. On the drop, the bass makes a magnificent entrance, sounding like a diving plane. One of those tracks that you need to rewind in disbelief. Pure power.
