Can we talk about Patsy, for a minute?
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out before, but Patsy is an interesting name given for a child star.
The non-name definition of it is someone who is easily taken advantage of...A definition which directly plays into Trisha’s struggle as a child star.
Being titled Patsy is so telling for her. She represents the seedy side of the entertainment industry, the side that makes children a product and makes them turn to drugs to cope with it.
The Hannah Montana allusions are not a coincidence, and I think a lot of Trish’s struggle is a direct critique of how the industry can prey on the young and essentially, ruin them.
Basically, I think it’s really smart that they gave her the name of patsy and that her story is representative of a much bigger problem.
