I've been thinking about the anon that got offended when you said let marinette be chubby. Like I get why they're offended by it, thinking you said to let Marinette be less attractive. But I don't think you meant "less attractive" as in "ugly." But "less attractive" as in "look more normal for a kid and less appealing for adults" like how Hollywood would cast adults to play teenage roles or anime shows where a 15 y/o kid has abs. Turning Red's Mei Ling has a round face and she's not ugly. Her friend, Abby, can be described as round and she looks like how girls her age in real life would look. I don't know about the anon, but I think they got reactive instead of asking what you meant by that. It happens to everyone.
Yeah, that's definitely what I meant, and to be fair to that anon, I didn't word that very well.
Like. Marinette's design is...it's a Choice. She looks like, if you dressed her appropriately, she would fit right in in a line up of "sexy school girl porn stars". She's tiny and dainty and delicate with a "womanly" figure. She's 13 man.
I think Turning Red gives us a lot of spectacular examples of how animated 13 year olds (especially girls) should look. Like Meilin is adorable. She's got a soft face, there's shots where she's holding her mum's hand and hers is so much like. It looks so childlike. She looks like a kid. They all look like kids. Like adorable goofy silly tweens. There's nothing sexy or erotic about them, even though one of the movie's main themes is growing up and having sexual thoughts and feelings. Like there's literally a scene where Meilin is shaking her butt all over the place and it doesn't feel sexualising at all!
Marinette on the other hand looks fully developed, if a little small. I honestly, until we got Befana I genuinely thought Marinette was meant to be 16 AT LEAST. I had to rewatch that part nearly a dozen times to be sure I'd heard it properly. But 13???
It's a choice to make Marinette look "womanly" but I think, if Marinette actually looked like a growing 13 yo, and was like chubby all over, and we didn't get all these messed up shots of her butt where it's pretty damn obvious why we're seeing it *points out the porn art of the characters created by one of the shows prominent storyboarders*
But yeah, what I was trying to say is that Marinette should look like a child, not a supermodel.
