I'm never done being insane about the way Silver equates himself with both Thomas and Miranda in that conversation they have while Flint buries the cache at the end of s3.
Like, he essentially says he inhabits the place in Flint's life that they both used to. The people he was closest to! The people he loved! His ideological partners! He sees himself that way!
Does he imagine how they felt in that place at Flint's side? Does he look back at how many times he made choices with the express purpose of getting there? Or were his motives opaque even to himself? Does he see them then, in the forest?
Perhaps, in the days that follow, he believes he is distancing himself from the path Thomas and Miranda both walked. Perhaps he believes it will save him.
At the end of the episode, he is not at Flint's shoulder any longer. He takes his own seat at the table. Perhaps he thinks this is the moment he steps out of that role.
And, of course, it is just that kind of gesture that Thomas and Miranda both would have - both did - make in their lives. They were independent, strong people. And it didn't make them any less Flint's, nor did it make Flint any less theirs.
