After the new changes implemented in Xitter all I have to say is: please don't make me move to Instagram.
Okay, seriously now. I never used Instagram like anyone else, I HATE that app with passion. I barely even used it in 2018, imagine now, after they made it 15000 times worse for the user.
It's so fucking awful having to see artists try to fight these predatory algorithms, because I'm also an artist and a tired user. Every time I think Twitter can't get any worse, Elon Musk proves me wrong. It's impressive, really. Twitter is my preferred social media when it comes to art, news and interacting with other people. Or it was before, you know, the most pathetic man ever bought it.
The algorithm was nice, I got to see lots of art from the artists I already followed, and it recommended new ones! I used to read news, opinions and interact with people whose beliefs were similar to mine ("radical left"). Now I can barely use it.
I refuse to leave because the fandoms I'm in aren't concentrated in other platforms. I've tried using Cara, it didn't work. I'm kinda active on BlueSky, but it isn't the same. Tumblr is more enjoyable on the web version, but I don't use it that much anymore. Pinterest is full of reposts, disrespect to artists overall, ads every–fucking–where, and full of AI slop. And don't get me started on TikTok.
Now, Instagram... It's a combination of Twitter, Facebook and TikTok to me. The algorithm has been extremely predatory towards artists since, I don't know, they changed the icon from the classic one to the new one? You can get shadowbanned over the most insignificant detail, it's hysterical. Everyone posts stories and you can't hide that tab to only see posts (or at least I think so?), they keep moving the icons for different things (DMs, the notifications tab, and whatever else they've got there), the fact that they force me TO WATCH ADS FOR ABOUT 5 TO 6 SECONDS BECAUSE IT WON'T LET ME SWIPE, and the fucking reels. No like, why the fuck do they try that hard to force me to watch short timed videos? If I wanted to lobotomize myself I'd have gone to TikTok, thank you very much. Everything is SO fucking wrong with that stupid app, you'll never catch me using it more than 15 minutes in a month. Holy shit.
It's so sad that it's one of the apps that has so many artists today! They fight so hard for gaining public there, it's not even worth it... But I get it because our jobs are extremely undervalued and we have to gain some money one way or another.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but in 2025, Istagram does a better job recommending me art and memes than fucking Twitter. Yes, it can be something obvious to people who normally use it, but having to admit that (ME!) is fucking crazy.
I'm so fucking tired of going from one app that keeps me on a doomscrolling cycle to another!
''As grandes empresas de tecnologia de comunicação (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook e etc) estão ajudando a promover e lucrando com o pior tipo de exploração infantil: A exploração sexual.''
I finally gave in to getting Istagram
