#issue numbers

I was day-dreaming today that, as it's Tuesday, perhaps Gowalla would release a new item that isn't part of a marketing campaign (e.g. not a Mickey Hat or Cirque du Soleil mask).  That got me into looking through the logs of the latest items found (did I mention that I log all items?) and finding a few interesting issue numbers.  I was going to put up a post to point out items which are due to expire soon, but as you'll see, maybe that doesn't matter anymore...

Some interesting stats, no? The only items that are actually going to "retire" soon are the Roadrunner and the Incase Backpack both of which have less than 100 units until they reach their maximum.  Although, as the above shows, the maximum issue number doesn't actually seem to be doing anything anymore.  A lot of the more common items are going over their maximums even today.

This isn't happening to every item (e.g. the other Incase items which are heavily coveted) but it does appear to be a growing problem.  The only item in that list which seems to have fixed itself is the "Rework Book" which hasn't appeared again since November of last year but promotional items like "Red Bull" (which I don't think Gowalla have ever commented on) are still going over their limits.
