Peritoma arborea (Isomeris arborea)
This desert shrub is native to southern California and southward into Baja California. Ii is commonly called “bladder pod” because of its attractive swollen seed pods - green when they are immature, and turning brown when the seeds ripen. It is an easy plant to grow, and very drought-tolerant. It is most often seen labeled as Isomeris, though it has now been moved into a new genus, Peritoma. It belongs to the family Cleomaceae.
