Waiting For the World to Change
While John Mayer may have made the above words famous, I think these days we are all in this frame of mind. Depending on the situation in your country it may be more like “waiting for the world to re-open?” Now that vaccination is readily available for those of us living in wealthy, and somewhat democratic countries, we are starting to sense the light is coming. We are starting to again look outward, wondering when we can begin to spread out wings again. I received my second vaccine last weekend and I know I’m definitely back checking out travel sites, just waiting for the 14 day quarantine to be removed for vaccinated travellers, and the border to the U.S. to reopen.
Of course, I’m extremely aware that countries less fortunate than mine are not in the same boat. I also know that until they are, we won’t be able to safely travel much of the world. There are other countries, (like Australia), who have kept their borders closed, but still don’t have a big vaccination program, who will be stuck within their own country until either everyone else protects Australians by being vaccinated, or they get on board and start vaccinating.
However, finally, after a long hiatus, my Inbox is starting once again to receive travel deals. Because one of the ways I deal with stress is by envisioning my life after the stressful event has passed, I’ve been planning trips in my head for months now, so when we DO get the green light, I’ve probably got 4 trips lined up over the course of a year. I’ve only made hard plans for one of them, and I even have a Plan B if needed. If we have to reroute due to border/quarantine issues, then we will lose a grand total of $40USD, which seems like an acceptable loss. I am encouraged though by watching the U.K. and the US reopening, and I’m hopeful that in the near term we will get to see our friends and families, and hug again.
Meanwhile, my yard is still the big pandemic winner!
