On the lifeboat, the teenagers still looked worried. Molly and Trent were afraid too, but tried to stay calm.
“Do you think Sierra's okay?” Isiah asked.
“I hope so,” Courtney said.
“Who's Sierra?” Molly asked.
“Our sister,” Courtney said.
“Wait, Sierra Morris? The singer?” Brian asked.
“Yeah, you know her?” Courtney asked.
“Yeah! She's, like, the most famous person to graduate from my high school!”
“We go to the same school, man. We're in the same math class. I bring my brother to your games.”
“Oh geez. You're Courtney Morris from my Algebra II class?”
“Well, I mean, it's not your class, but yeah.”
“Sorry I didn't recognize you on the cruise.”
“Don't worry about it. I'm not really surprised.”
“We aren't exactly friends, dude.”
“Well, that's true. But, we still could have hung out.”
“And what would we have done, Helmhodt-High's-Pride-and-Joy-Brian-Long, if we had hung out?”
“I don't know, like, go to the pool, or sit out and get a tan...”
“I don't exactly need to get a tan,” Courtney said as she extended her arms, displaying her already dark complexion.
“So, do you like basketball?”
“Why, because I'm black?”
“What? No. Because you said you took your brother to all my games.”
“Well, not all the games, but the home games, and some of the away games if they're close enough.”
“Did you ever stick around?”
“I guess you're pretty good at basketball.”
“I mean, I'm not a huge sports fan.”
Brian grew bored of the conversation.
“What do you like?” Courtney said in an insulting approximation of Brian's voice.
“Wow! Cool! How incredibly interesting and unique! I've never met anyone who likes music!”
“You're supposed to ask me who I like.”
“Look, I can just go talk to your brother if you're going to be this, like, prissy little--”
“Watch it,” Trent said from the back of the boat.
“I don't want you saying anything inappropriate.”
“I wasn't going to say anything inappropriate!”
Mike returned to the RV. He grabbed a bag and filled it with a day's worth of food and water. He found Trevor and the two were ready to leave the next morning at dawn.
