so, now that its been a day and i'm not freaking out about it anymore, i have a Story
So, i'm petsitting for family, and its all going well. The dog is behaving, the cats havent tried to eat me again yet, the chickens are all fine, right? everything's normal
except.
i pop my dinner in the microwave and then go outside to let the dog back in - she roams around the chicken pen while she's out.
there are suddenly, like, 8 chickens and a rooster outside the fence and i start panicking. these chickens are my family member's pride and joy, theyre his everything, he'd be beyond distraught if they got eaten by raccoons or foxes or something and theyre out of the safety of their pen.
so of course im freaking out. i call my aunt, she doesnt pick up. i text her and she doesnt respond. i call my mom, freaking out because oh my fucking god theres loose chickens and my whole job is to make sure these chickens arent loose
after a chat with mom, i herd as many as i can up and tell my aunt what happened. and then i do a head count of chickens. you know, to see how many i have to round up still.
i'm only watching ten chickens. i counted twelve.
finally, my aunt responds after like an hour of panicking
theyre the neighbor's chickens who are allowed to wander everywhere. the neighbor's chickens that i wasnt told about.
so NOW i have to talk to the neighbor and apologize for stealing his chickens because i just didnt know
thankfully the neighbor was very, very nice about it and he was laughing the whole time, but oh my fucking god a warning from the people im petsitting for wouldve been nice lmao
so anyway i accidentally stole the neighbor's chickens yesterday afternoon
ive petsit for these people like 4 times before and never once have i seen these free range chickens, and especially not in the yard directly outside the chicken fence
