Mako was late. He strode across the square at a brisk pace, long legs outstretched as he jogged toward the market. He had time for a short stop for some dumplings and then he had to make the tram to head back home.
He nearly stepped on the boy as he went around the statue.
“What? Bo?” There was no question that it was anyone else, unless one of Bolin’s fangirls had— no. The boy looked exactly like his brother, right down to the clothes and the smudge on his cheek. “Bolin? How did this happen?”
The young earthbender was about to ignore this passerby like everyone else who had walked by for the past few hours once he realized it probably wasn't his brother. Too big. That is, until the 'stranger' said his nickname. The one only Mako called him.
That was enough to cause him to pick himself up off the ground (with a little help from the mysterious person's pant leg) and look upward. There was no mistaking Mako, even at a significantly older age and a significantly taller stature. His already-large green eyes grew even wider in recognition. "Mako??"
"What're you talkin' about? I waited all day for you and you're late! How're you so big?" He poked Mako's knee as he spoke both to make sure he was real and to scold him for being so late.
