Apparently this is the best place to talk and rant about my hyper fixations, so that's what I'm going to do.
I'd like to introduce you to my (fortunately/unfortunately foam) sword.
Yes. This large, unfathomably unhistorical monstrosity of a weapon is mine. Let's make a few things clear right off the get go. This is a GOOFY sword. Standing OVER six feet tall, this thing is an absolute beat to wield, let alone get it into frame to take an adequate picture.
Is it a Zweihander? Kind of. Is it a Claymore? Where it counts! Throw in some spikes and a larger than life flamberge blade and you got yourself a weapon that any sword expert would either vomit with rage or be rendered stunned. Or probably both.
This thing is so big, it could give any weapon from any manga, anime or Dark Souls game a run for it's money. That's how goofy it is.
Yet, for all the things it's not; historically accurate, useful in battle, etc, I love it for everything it is.
I wanted a BIG. SCARY. SWORD.
THIS is exactly what I wanted and what I needed.
When I'm not carting it around and showing it off to friends who are either super into stuff like this or hapless friends who get foisted medieval weapon facts whether they like it or not, it hangs on my wall beside my bed.
Who knows, maybe someday I'll actually purchase a historically accurate Zweihander to (fake) fight with, until then, the beast awaits it's next battle.
