Nobody knows what kind of character Philip is going to be in the show, right ? They might change him to be the nicest character ever. We don't know. He might be incredibly more sympathetic and likeable. Who knows ?

The problem is that if they want to make a romance for Show!Eloise that works and isn't incredibly mysoginistic in some way, it needs to be unconventional and without marriage because Eloise wants to keep her independence and the only way to have that if she is married is if he let her (which is not real independence) and it needs to acknowledge that Eloise does not want children for herself.

In a show so formulaic which always ends up with romance and marriage and baby ever after and with a book plot explicitly about a woman being trapped as a wife because the guy wanted a mother for his children... How are they going to do that ??

And like, this is truly a serious question we've actually been trying to figure out.
