My Big Brother met #IrwinHasen back in #1993 at a printing shop my brother was working at. Because he and I were both fans of #DondiWhite, my brother asked Mr Hasen if he could do a #Dondi sketch for me to add to my scrapbook. I learned a lot about #DondiCIA and #graffiti from my Big Brother... And I thank him for it every chance I get.
I write this post with a heavy heart though, as Irwin Hasen passed away today in the early hours of the morning. He was 96 years old. For all those who don't know, Mr. Hasen did a lot of artwork for Alan Scott (the original Green Lantern) adventures's back in the 1940's and was also the co-creator of Ted "Wildcat" Grant with Bill Finger. Mr. Hasen was also co-creator of the comic strip Dondi which ran for three decades in the papers. I've read a lot of old GL and Wildcat comics, and knowing that Mr. Hasen was the man who made Ted Grant and Alan Scott's old adventure's sizzle and pop with such bright colors and action heavy panels, well it saddens me that he's gone from the world now. So, for everyone who reads this, take a small moment this weekend to raise a glass of something fine to the memory of Irwin Hasen, may he rest in piece.
