i guess my previous post about plumbing repair (link) didn't go out because something in the tags?
anyways yesterday i go to put water in the duck pool and
no water
well fuck, that means something broke and flooded
i found a gap in a 1½" poly line where a barbed coupling (guessing that word was the tag that got flagged lol) let go
the old one was plastic, i hate the plastic barbed couplings because well they just don't hold
this one did hold for like 7 years surprise but yep it gave out
anyways these things can be a pain to get pipe on but the right way is to wiggle the pipe onto it (idk if you can see the video at the other post i linked) because the barbs basically grab and pull themselves further in
but this time i had the concern that it seemed that the pipe wasn't long enough especially after i cut off the old ends (because the barbed fitting had stretched the ends a bit so i didn't trust the first couple inches on either side)
so i wanted to pull it together while wiggling it on, not easy to do with slick pipe and only two hands
so i used a ratchet strap to pull the two pipe segments towards each other
basically had a prussic knot a few feet up on either side with the strap being one of them hooked to the other and with the tension i was able to do the wiggling without worrying about pulling on the pipe
