This set from the Book of Learning 2 opens with an old block of Buddha Ratnasambhava printed onto rainbow wrapping paper around Pride time. I’m fascinated by the relationship between layers in a print. The Buddha is monochrome but the under layer is an offering of colours. We had gone to Lancaster to #ironpressprintmaking for a day of CPD with @starrursula and @paulg.art to learn photo etching processes. We were very lucky to get the session and had it been now during covid it would have been a very different day. The results were very much fun and I was making a tribute to saint #derekjarman of Dungeness. It was at the start of the period where #prospectcottage was under threat from “developers” and the nightmare of the loss of a sacred place was looming. I imagined being able to get the print run done and sold to add to the fundraiser but the world had other ideas. The process was wonderful in that the image (mine was a digital photo collage of the man) was photocopied onto acetate and that was used as a positive to protect parts of the photosensitive plate from a UV exposing machine. The rest was then washed off with ordinary water and the image then revealed on the plate in fractional differences in height which could hold ink. After that it was wiped back and run through the press as normal to provide a photo detailed print. #sketchbook #linocut #linoprint #rainbowflag #buddha #ratnasambhava #saint #hero #dungeness #queerartist #queerart #derekjarmanhouse #derekjarmanscottage #liverpoolartist #printmakersofinstagram #prideflag #photoetching #intaglioprint #continuousprofessionaldevelopment (at Lancaster, England, UK) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE18wpMn1fu/?igshid=1j2gmo1l4kb5h
