the black leg being attached to the grey side is because the grey Lucifer is always Incomplete. Lucifer, as part of his design for story purposes, is missing his entire left arm, his right leg from the knee down, and his right pinky (rarely incorporated into the dog shape). the black Lu fills out what the grey one is missing.

the difference in hair is to compliment their stark personalities. they can think the same things and often do, but they are still separate, sapient entities, while still being the exact same person. the third eye on the grey one represents their paranoia (it can never close, it can see through some materials, along with other magic stuff happening, yadda yadda)

the black Lu is the more outspoken and loud one, and thus has more sway in what they do despite them sharing control of the legs.

up until today, they had entirely separate palettes. now the skin, claws, mouth and horn colours are the same. the tail colours can alternate depending on who is feeling more present or just by choice, but black Lu usually lets grey Lu have the tail as it is (top grey, bottom black) to make them feel better.
