Heated Rivalry Show Analysis Part 2

This series is born out entirely out of the fact that my friends would get annoyed when I would want to stop the show and analyze things.

Shooting the CCM Commercial (One Frame Analysis)
Rewatch Focus: Camera/Lighting/Visuals

We note how the camera crew and everyone is the middle of the frame which is acting as a block of them actually being together and real. Also the fact that the spotlight is literally on them if we were in their point of view, we would feel seen and on display for everyone to scrutinize and watch us.
The use of light and shadow here is just sublime.
We note that the side that Shane comes from is more lit here where is Ilya’s is much more dark.
This is putting more of a spot light on Shane and that he is the main focus. It is also kind of eluding to him being under the microscope a bit more too. Also such a symbol of how closeted Shane is here that he is blocking the light entirely.
It could be playing as well to the sun and moon of Shane and Ilya or how, to the eyes of the world that Shane is the happy guy that does what people say. Ilya is the guy we don’t know a sort of bad boy and villain esque.
(Ilya, we know that is just how the world judges you.)
Another key point is that with the brightness at max, their faces and bodies are still backlit to us. This could be for the fact that they are both wanting their "like" for one another to stay hidden.
It is also a way to show how it could have been any two players that did this shoot and it wouldn’t be awkward.
And as they skate back you can notice a beam of light that creates a line between them and it is as Shane’s face could be the sun.
We can also sat it is a sign for Ilya as well as the motif of sun is used for him a lot and the lights are often designed to make the form of a cross. Who does that cross represent and who does Ilya talk to in the sky….His mama!!!
