It starts in a train compartment, with upside down magazines and that feeling in his chest that he might belong finally

He watches as she learns to duel, carving hexes from the air

They become a family, a trio of misfits who slot together in a way that’s not quite perfect

He thinks he can feel her smile before the wall next to them collapses and they tear apart, snapping back into soldiers

He doesn’t see her again until afterwards when he finds her perched on a table, chatting quietly to Flitwick

He almost collapses with relief, sinking down next to her

She silently takes his hand, tangling their fingers together
