Oh, man, it’s so good! I love it. Thank you for sharing it. It really fits my image of what Rowdy must have been like when Favor first signed him on--intense and eager to prove himself, reeling from the trauma of the war, ready to latch onto this job and this leader for direction and purpose. Then after a while on the trail, I think he settles down, back into his goofy, easygoing self. Your depiction of Favor is great too--his responsibilities, and the inevitable failures and loss, weigh him down more and more, and make him seem older than he is. And it fits right in with canon--something must have happened to Favor between seasons 7 and 8, I think. I love that you have him get to go home to be with his girls. 

I know of this fic by Pooh, a missing scene for that episode (with Favor and Rowdy talking a little more about their war experiences). And there’s this fic (“Sometimes All You Need” by YLJedi), where a character joins the drive who Rowdy knew as a kid, who was also in a Union prison with him. Both great fics. lol Are you one of those authors?!
