While yes, there were better ways of handling this situation, L had never been gifted in the art of polite conversation. Brutal honesty was almost all he knew, and he wasn’t going to force himself into anything else for someone that made him feel like garbage.

The male knelt down, collecting the now empty paper cup and its plastic lid, carefully resealing it as he stood. He wasn’t fond of wasting sugary drinks, especially one that had been brewed just to his liking.

In the three weeks following the end of the Kira case, L had yet to speak a single word. The moment he and Watari arrived at their new location, he locked himself away in his room for hours. It wasn’t until dinnertime that he finally left his bedroom, his eyes puffy and red as he stared at the floor.

Although he usually slouched, there was something far more vulnerable to the way he was carrying himself. He seemed uncomfortable, unsure of every movement he made. Climbing up into a nearby chair, folded his arms on his knees, pressing his face into them.

Light’s gruesome end had unsettled the detective thoroughly. He was used to losing people, he was used to seeing morbid scenes- but, this had been...different. He had hoped for something better, something more prideful. Instead, he was forced to watch as the man he’d seen as his equal writhed on the floor in his own blood, screaming. Never before had he watched someone fall so quickly. He had cried for the first time in years that night in his room.
