Earlier today Instagram announced that it is adding video capabilities to their app. Â Users can shoot videos up to 15 seconds long, choose from 13 different filters and then share with their friends the way they're used to with photos. Â Is this the beginning of the end of the Twitter-owned Vine app? Â While some people have been quick to jump to this conclusion, I predict that Vine will still survive, it's just tough to figure out in what capacity it will function.
The thing that Instagram has over Vine is that it already has an existing user base that can enable this video feature right away, whereas Vine still needs to build that user base from the ground up. Â One of the features that Kevin Systrom (Instagram Co-founder) was really excited about is the video stabilization feature called Cinema. Â It was tough to see exactly how well it works based on the low resolution web stream I was watching, but I am curious to see how well it works. Â Anyone who has shot video on a smartphone knows that it is very difficult to get a smooth image. Time will tell for this one...
