Willem was one of those individuals who won life’s lottery by simple fact of birth - the eldest son of a wealthy, upper class family, whose business interests dabbled in both healthcare and real estate. He further proved he was one of lady luck’s favorites when he was granted doting ( if highly ambitious ) parents and two younger siblings who he absolutely adored.Â
Willem followed his parents’ behest to pursue a career in medicine, and once again fortune seemed to smile down upon him - having met his future wife and the love of his life among his fellow students. Not a year later, they were pregnant with their first child. She and Willem agreed that she would take a break from her studies to focus on raising their daughter. Â
Unbeknownst to him, his parents never truly approved of his wife and her humble, middle class beginnings. Though never outright cruel, their scathing looks and snide remarks eventually took a heavy toll on her. It didn’t help that Willem spent long hours at the hospital, bogged down by the demands of his surgical residency.Â
Perhaps it should come at no surprise when she decided to divorce him, leaving him behind with nary a explanation and taking their daughter with her.Â
Utterly confused and heartbroken, Willem tried his damndest to win her back but to no avail. At his lowest point, his sister finally revealed the truth of his parents’ involvement in his divorce. Furious and betrayed, Willem, in a rare fit of recklessness, broke his father’s trust in a ruinous act he could never undo ( his secret ).Â
As the metaphorical smoke cleared, all he could recall from those days was the look of gutted shock on his parents’ and siblings’ faces.Â
Willem came to New York with no plan, seeking oblivion at the bottom of a bottle and in any warm, willing body he could find. Ending up in the path of the Ghost Riders, in hindsight, was perhaps fate’s strange way of giving him a break.
A 31-year old civilian man with no prior fighting experience joining a motorcycle club seemed like such a laughable concept, but Willem was able to carve out a small place for himself, despite it all. From a fumbling prospect to an efficient tail gunner, Willem had come a long way in his 7 years, always ready to give aid and come to the defense of any and all of his members. Their ever loyal and vigilant rear guard.

HEADCANONS
Willem left in the third year of his surgical residency, as such he’s skilled in relatively advanced first aid and basic medical/surgical procedures. As such, he’s probably had to fish out bullets and stitch up lacerations of more than one Ghost Rider member - though they certainly curse him out all the while.
Willem is naturally averse to violence, which makes his role as tail gunner the most suited to him - perhaps he can justify his brutish actions better when it’s done in the protection of others.
He is remarkably fastidious, one of the longer residents at the clubhouse after his first year as a prospect, as such he takes it upon himself to make sure everything is always kept neat and tidy.
He has a soft spot for animals, and was able to adopt a beautiful long haired grey cat named Ophelia.
