Fellowship interview #1
Okay, started with the home team. I thought I had an idea of what my home program could offer. I wasn’t super off, but I did find it fascinating nonetheless.
Pros: strong clinical training, good transplant exposure
Cons: minimal research support, not very academic
The interview were all over the place, too. My first interviewer didn’t even want to talk about medicine, we just talked about donuts and her adorable dog. My second interviewer asked me about what I like to bake and tested my knowledge of tea, then asked me about my research project and invited me to present at their research conference. The last interviewer was actually my prior attending, he flat out told me he just wanted me to go somewhere that supported the career I wanted to build, and he wasn’t sure if it was here. But if I stayed, he would try to help teach me how to build an academic career.
So one down, 10 to go.
