The Falls Festival
The first Falls Festival - which was originally named the Rock Above the Falls Festival - was held on the 31st of December in 1993 and featured only nine acts. A ticket to the festival cost just $20, and the organisers were anticipating no more than a few thousand people to make their way to the farm. It was on that day, however, the inexperienced organisers were forced to accommodate more than ten thousand people, eventually having to negotiate with the neighbouring farmers for temporary use of their land to facilitate the large crowd. The first Falls Festival was successful. Now about to enter its 18th year, the Falls Festival at Lorne is set to begin later today - or tomorrow, depending on your pass - and if last year is anything to go by, will be an offering of "grandiose proportions" that allows for a combination of "musical perfection, artistic interludes and summer escapism." The modest festival that began all those years ago is now host to some of the most thrilling performances from artists worldwide - such as Interpol, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and The National to name a few appearing this year. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket, you're in for something special which will undoubtedly be another chapter added to the Falls history book. You can view the full 2010 line-up for the Falls Festival (Lorne) here, or if you were lucky enough to buy tickets for the Marion Bay site, the full line-up is here. Enjoy. So-So.
