Dear AD, do you think that it makes any sense to try to contact directly book publishers, music labels or musicians, looking for making illustrations/design for this field? At least when they are relatively small? Or I should just contact ADs? How can I find the AD of a specific music label, for example? I never make it to see such a contact in the music labels websites. Thanks so much for all the knowledge and wisdom you share – You make the damn difference.
Today is Google-Fu day on Dear AD, where I go thru the inbox and answer all the questions that are answerable with: Use your spy internet stalker skills. Aka learn to Google-Fu. I promise you the info you need is on the internet somewhere. Use your creative skills to come at it from different angles.
You have to work a little harder to find the art director names. This is called Google-Fu (like Kung-Fu, get it?). So no, most websites will not list an art director contact. However in most cases if you google “company name” + “art director” you will get some names, and then you follow those around the internet until you get to an email. Find them on LinkedIn, find them on Facebook. If you have a single email address from a person at a company, chances are you have their email formula, whether it’s [email protected] or some other combination. The information is out there, I promise.
