I forgot if I already blogged about this or not, but:
If any of my followers (or anyone else really) are having trouble with productivity because you keep getting distracted by procrastinating on the internet, try using StayFocusd, which you can find at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stayfocusd/laankejkbhbdhmipfmgcngdelahlfoji?hl=en, or something like it. I’ve had chronic procrastination issues as long as I can remember, and I also tend to flit around between hobbies like some kind of dilettante butterfly, and I installed it a couple of weeks ago and have been WAY more productive, writing way more words than I’d written in a couple of months, cleaning my entire house, and doing some much needed work towards the self-employed freelancing business I’m trying to establish. (I’m a proofreader and also a poet, if anyone’s interested, though in this case I was dabbling in graphic design for a relative.)
It’s free to use, and it works by allowing you to add sites to a block list and block them between certain times of day and on certain days of the week. You can’t remove a site from your list once you’ve used up your allowed time on the blocked sites during the period set (which defaults to 10 minutes allowed during a default period of the whole day). I blocked Tumblr, Facebook, Reddit, all the fanfic sites I could think of, a bunch of blogs that I read but definitely count as procrastination, and a few other things, for standard working hours every day of the week including weekends (since I’m self employed and work from home), and every time I start procrastinating on a new site I’m adding it to the list. If you work at a place that means you’re out, you could set it to block only an hour or two a day instead, or to only block you on weekends, or whatever works for you. (Unfortunately you have to block sites between the same times every day that you block them.)
Anyway, I feel like starting using this site is really saving me from a life of failing to achieve any of my goals. Definitely would recommend this or something similar.
