His entire home seemed so empty and alone now that Jack wondered if it was even worth living in.
After Seto and Mokuba Kaiba's bodies had been taken away, he had buckled himself down for a long, hard process--surely, he'd be interrogated by Security for harboring unregistered citizens; perhaps he faced arrest, marking, deportation back to the slums of Satellite. They could name him a suspect in their murders, or just outright lock him a detention facility for the crime.
However, none of that had come, and so he was left, alone, to stew in his own cold, cruel thoughts.
"Everybody leaves." He mumbled to himself, laying his head back over the edge of the couch so that he could stare at the ceiling before closing his eyes. "It's just a matter of time. Everybody leaves."
But not everybody had managed to make him feel so flustered as the brunette had. He wouldn't, couldn't admit it, but he hadn't felt this way since Carly before the sealing of Aslla Piscu robbed her of her memory. It had been too bittersweet to try to let himself fall for her again, knowing that those little things would never really be the same.
Now, he'd let it happen with someone else, and... the outcome was no different.
Somewhere, faintly, he thought he heard a door opening. Probably Mikage, he thought, come to try and rouse him from his depression to put on airs of normalcy that really didn't matter to him. Jack didn't waste the energy shouting at her to go away. She'd get the message on her own.
